Google and Google Scholar Search Guide

This guide provides instructions on how to effectively search Google and Google Scholar. Whereas Google searches public web content, Google Scholar searches across a wide range of academic material including peer-reviewed papers, academic books, theses and dissertation papers, conference papers, technical reports, and other scholarly literature. To navigate through this guide, select the tabs on the left-hand side for help with the following topics:

  • Google – using advanced search operators or the advanced search page
  • Google Scholar – using advanced search operators or the advanced search pop-up window; linking to the library (for SGUL and NHS users); exporting and saving results
