Whether you are a new or returning student, this guide will give you the essential information needed to use St George's Library
The Library is open:
24 hours, 7 days a week
The main helpdesk is staffed between 8am - 6pm Mon-Fri. Outside of these hours, the Library is self-service only.
The Computer Rooms are open:
24 hours, 7 days a week.
There are four computers linked to the NHS network, from which NHS staff can print for free. NHS staff can also use the university computers. Ask at the library helpdesk for a university network login.
The Library and Computer Rooms are on 1st floor, Hunter Wing.
There are a range of study spaces available:
• Computer Rooms
• Silent study space
• Quiet group study space
• Group study rooms
There are additional computing facilities on the 5th floor of Hunter Wing.
There are also 70+ laptops available for use in the Library. You can help yourself to these from the trollies by our helpdesks and in our print room. Charging cables are available to sign-out from the main Library Helpdesk.
No food is permitted in the Library.
Drinks (in lidded containers) are allowed.
Mobile phones: you can use the silent functions only, please do not make or receive calls in the Library.
Please respect others by observing the specific rules displayed in the Quiet and Silent study areas.

You need your SGUL ID card to access the Library and Computer Rooms at all times.
If you have forgotten your ID, you will need to sign-out a temporary pass from Security on the ground floor, behind reception. Present this at the helpdesk, along with some ID with your name on, and a member of Library staff will issue you with a day pass for the Library gates.
Users must be able to produce valid ID at the request of Library or Security staff.
